On Sunday March 18 the girls travelled to Aveley FC to play close rivals West Ham.
Despite having several good chances from Michelle Oliver, Rebecca Lewis, Gill Blackmore and Marie Cordes, including one cleared off the line, in the opening 30 mins the score remained 0-0. In the 31st minute West Ham broke free of the Spurs defence and despite keeper Tina Hills desperate attempt slotted the ball into the Tottenham net. Both sides had chances in the remaining quarter of an hour of the first half, but the score remained 1-0.
The second half followed a similar pattern as the first with both sides wasting good chances. Oliver, Blackmore, Teresa Broderick, Lewis and Lucy Palmer all had chances but the ball just would not go in. The second half was marred when one of the West Ham defenders broke her nose in an accidental clash. On the positive side, 16-year-old Kerry Daniells came on to make her 1st team debut during the second half.
Final score: West Ham 1-0 Spurs
TEAM: Hills, Wiltsher, Djoshkoun, Broderick, D’Agostino, Oliver, Blackmore, Wiggen, Schillaci, Lewis and Cordes. Subs: Curtis, Daniells, and Johnson.
