Tina Hills was in superb form as Spurs Ladies kicked-off their bid to win the GLWL Premier Division with a draw at Southend Ladies.
Goalkeeper Hills was in inspired form with a host of fine saves that looked set to help earn all three points until she was finally beaten with 15 minutes remaining.
In the first half both sides struggled to come to terms with a very strong crossfield wind. Mo Cordes went close early on when the Southend keeper tipped her near post effort round for a corner and this was shortly followed by a free kick on the edge of the box to Southend, but keeper Hills saved comfortably.
On the half-hour mark she was back in action - tipping over a dangerous long range effort that was swerving in the wind.
Striker Zoella Freeman almost broke the deadlock before the break with a cheeky lob from the edge of the area.
Kelly Herrett opened the scoring just after the hour with a superb 25-yard free-kick that she bent over the wall and beyond the home goalkeeper.
Hills then came into her own with a series of saves but she was unable to do anything about the Southend equaliser with 15 minutes to go.
The game marked debuts for Kim McGhee and 15 year old Samantha Farnum.
Spurs Ladies: Hills, Herrett, Oshodi, Daniells, Djoshkoun, Farnum, Cordes, Brigitte, Freeman, Blackmore and Sparrow. Subs: McGhee, Palmer.
