Report

The Spurs Ladies first team moved into second place with a convincing 4-1 victory over Acton Sports Club.

Kat Clifton put Spurs ahead from the penalty spot after Samrawit Bereket’s burst into the box was halted by an Acton defender. Shortly afterwards, Jessie Richards finished off a neat pass from Faye Callaway (pictured) with low shot to the keeper’s left to double the lead and it was three before the break, when Bereket struck at the end of a pacy run.

Into the second half, some good pressure from Callaway and Richards forced a mistake and Clare Singh was on hand to slot the ball into an empty net. However, Acton were not going to lose without some resistance and scored from a wind-assisted corner kick and only missed out on reducing the gap further when they missed a penalty and were denied by two fine saves by keeper Lacey Amato.

With four games left, the prospect of promotion is there for the team if they can continue their good form.
