Report

Spurs Ladies gatecrashed Portsmouth's party to land a valuable 2-1 win in the FA Women's Premier League South on Sunday.

In the first competitive ladies match to be played at Pompey's famous Fratton Park, goals from Megan Wynne and Andra Maroci saw Spurs home in front of a crowd of 673.

The victory moved the team up to mid-table, just two points behind Brighton in fourth.

Manager, Karen Hills, reported: "We worked hard in all areas of the pitch and were rewarded with the opener on 12 minutes when Kim Lane delivered a corner that was cleared to Megan Wynne and she rifled into the top corner.

"The game was played at a high tempo with chances at both ends and we went 2-0 up on 21 minutes after good build-up play from Amy Cooper, Shannon Maloney and then Wendy Martin, who played in Andra Marcoci to finish from a tight angle.

"Pompey piled on the pressure in the second half as we started to tire a little.

"Tiffany Taylor pulled a goal back from a corner with 20 minutes left and they then had a goal disallowed, but we managed to hold with Chloe Morgan making some fine saves late on.

"Three points was massive for us after a difficult couple of weeks and we now focus on the our final match in the group stages of the League Cup against Brighton on Sunday."

Victory against the Seagulls will see the ladies progress to the knockout stages of the League Cup.

The match is at Ware FC, kick-off 2pm.
