Report

Andra Marcoci struck twice as Spurs Ladies beat West Ham 3-1 in the FA Women's Premier League South for the first time on Sunday.

The ladies hit back after successive defeats against Charlton and table-topping Gillingham with a convincing display against the Hammers at Ware FC.

Missing key players Wendy Martin and Jenna Schillaci and fielding a young line-up including the likes of Danni Albertsen, Lucia Leon, Maya Vio and Sophie McLean, boss Karen Hills reported that the team were well worthy of their victory.

"We're absolutely delighted with the win and we thoroughly deserved it," said Karen.

"We went close a couple of times at the start of the first half - Bianca Bapiste went through and was denied one-on-one by Lauren Picton and then Andra Marcoci hit the crossbar.

"We finally went 1-0 up on 41 minutes when Bianca was sent clear and this time she got the ball out of her feet and drilled home from about 30 yards, a great strike.

"We had to make a couple of changes at half-time with Davina Smith and Robyn Downie coming on and West Ham had a good spell of possession initially, without really creating any clear-cut chances.

"Andra Marcoci then made it 2-0 on 55 minutes and we were pretty comfortable from there, although West Ham pulled a goal back with eight minutes to go.

"It didn't matter though as Andra scored the third goal with five minutes left and we saw the game out from there.

"It was a good performance and a mention to Sophie, who looked really composed at left-back."

The ladies are back at home in the FA Women's Premier League South on Sunday, April 13, when they face Keynsham Town at Ware FC, 2pm.

Spurs Ladies vs West Ham: Morgan; Albertsen (Downie, 46), O'Halloran, Gamble, McLean; Maloney, Cooper (Smith, 46), Vio (Moseley); Leon, Marcoci, Baptiste. Unused subs: Waters, Williams.
