Report

Karen Hills reports a positive pre-season so far for Tottenham Hotspur Ladies. The team continued preparations for the start of the FA Women's Premier League South against Gillingham on August 24 with a 2-0 win against touring US team Whiteman College a fortnight ago before losing an eight-goal encounter against Arsenal on Saturday. There are a number of new faces in the squad including goalkeeper Toni-Anne Wayne, Irish international Avilla Bergin, Leanne Mabey from QPR and Leah Rawle from West Brom. "We've made some good signings and they way the squad is started to blend is very encouraging," said Karen. "The friendly against the US touring team was a tough examination and we saw some good combination play against Arsenal, that proved a worthwhile 90 minutes for us. "Things are going well so far, it's looking promising." Wendy Martin and Lucia Adrianna Padilla scored against Whiteman College and Wendy struck twice again against Arsenal, this time joined on the scoresheet by Katie O'Leary as we ended up losing 5-3 at Potters Bar. The team's preparations continue with a friendly against Millwall on Sunday before taking on Hertford (August 13) and MK Dons at Ware FC (August 17). Spurs Ladies v Arsenal: Wayne, Waithe (Giddings, 46), Gamble, Dunne, Rawle (McLean, 46), Maloney, Via, O'Leary (Mabey, 46), Martin (Leon, 46), Bergin (Morelli, 46), Padilla.
