Report

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies overcame a stern test against Lewes to climb back to the top of the FA Women's Premier League South on Sunday.

Spurs led twice but were hauled back on both occasions, the second equaliser just 20 minutes from time.

Undetered, they continued to push forward and Lucia Leon's second goal and the fourth from Bianca Baptiste secured a sixth competitive victory out of six so far this season.

"We work very hard and believe in what we do as a unit," said Head Coach, Juan Amoros.

"We understand the game is a team effort, everyone is buying into it and showing great levels of commitment, attitude and performance."

The ladies started well at Ware FC on Sunday and opened the scoring after eight minutes when Avilla Bergin drove to the edge of the box, beat two players and fired home over the goalkeeper.

Lewes struck back five minutes before the break and Spurs kicked on again at the start of the second half, Lucia was denied one-on-one before making it 2-1 on 53 minutes after chasing a ball over the top and getting there first to flick home.

Bianca and Lucia went close again but Lewes registered next for 2-2 on 70 minutes.

The team hit back immediately though with the crucial fifth goal of the game as Bianca trook a quick throw to Lucia who finished well.

Further chances fell to substitute Andra Marcoci and Bianca after assists from Wendy Martin and Lucia Padilla before Bianca secured maximum points with a fine left-foot finish.

Adrianna Lipowska came on for her debut in the 85th minute.

Juan added: "We played well in the second half, created lots of chances and deserved the victory.

"The team deserve credit but we've achieved nothing yet and we will continue to treat every game like it's a cup final.

"We travel to Cardiff City on Sunday, a big test and we're already working hard to get the most out of that trip."
