Spurs were blown out of the water by Portsmouth in the first half as they suffered a real jolt in the FA Women's Premier League on Sunday.
Karen Hills described it as a 'shock to the system' and a 'one-off performance' as her team slipped to an early 1-0 deficit and then trailed 3-0 at half-time before the final 4-0 scoreline.
It might have been a different story but for two key moments in the first half. Megan Wynne was denied one-on-one by Pompey goalkeeper Courtney Trodd at 0-0 and then with the score at 2-0, Trodd denied Jenna Schillaci from the penalty spot after Wendy Martin was fouled and Wynne struck the rebound against the post.
Ini Umotong made it 3-0 before half-time and after an even second half, Umotong added a late fourth.
"They started quicker than us all over the park, caught us sleeping early for 1-0 and we just couldn't recover," said Karen. "We couldn't deal with the threat of their front two and got punished.
"We were all devastated especially after we'd worked so hard to beat West Ham last week. I really don't know where the performance came from, it all just unravelled for us.
"It was a game to forget but we've got to snap out of that quickly as we now play Gillingham on Wednesday."
