Report

Spurs Ladies passed the test in the FA Women's Premier League on Sunday.

The team suffered the blow of a late defeat to Charlton in the FAWPL in midweek and lost two key players to injury in the process - Wendy Martin and Sophie McLean.

All that before the long trip to Gloucestershire to take on Forest Green on Sunday, just a week after they'd beaten the same team at Cheshunt.

If any doubts were creeping in as the teams went in goalless at half-time they were soon swept away with a superb second half display that reaped five goals and an important victory.

Leah Rawle pounced from close range from Jenna Schillaci's corner to open the scoring. Avilla Bergin set-up Katie O'Leary for 2-0 before Bergin scored herself one-on-one for 3-0. O'Leary returned the favour for Bergin to make it 4-0 before completing the goalscoring herself, meeting another Schillaci corner to head home the fifth.

"It was a very good performance on the back of what was a pretty difficult week," said manager Karen Hills.

"We were still a bit down after the defeat against Charlton so it was important to pick ourselves up again.

"We had a get together on the coach on the way to Forest Green, honest, open conversations about how we move forward and the players took that out there with them.

"We absolutely dominated from start to finish and the only thing missing was the end product. It was still 0-0 at half-time although we must have hit double-figures in chances and hit the woodwork but didn't really test the goalkeeper enough.

"We just said to keep just keep going and to have the belief that the goals would come and that's how it turned out.

"Leah Rawle scored from a corner and that settled us down. After that, it was a question of how many. We scored five in the end, missed a penalty and it was a positive performance because we made a few changes and Amy Cooper, Maya Vio, Rosie and Mollie Kmita all did really well."

Spurs Ladies v Forest Green: Toni-Anne Wayne, Leah Rawle (Riana Soobadoo 75), Alex Keown, Jenna Schillaci (c), Molly Kmita, Amy Cooper, Maya Vio (Shannon Moloney 75), Rosie Kmita, Avilla Bergin (Lucia Leon 65), Katie O'Leary, Bianca Baptiste.
