Defender Anna Filbey scored her first goal of the season as Spurs Women sealed a 3-0 win against Crystal Palace in the Continental League Cup at Bromley FC on Sunday.
Filbey broke the deadlock within six minutes and two brilliant second half goals from Kit Graham and Lucy Quinn wrapped up our London derby victory.
Our win at Hayes Lane means that we now have five points in Group D of the Conti Cup with fixtures still to come away to Chelsea on Wednesday 20 November and at home to Lewes next month.
Head Coaches Karen Hills and Juan Amoros made eight changes in total to the starting line-up which saw Angela Addison make her first start of the season and on the bench, reserve team goalkeeper Megan Drew was named as a substitute.
Filbey gave us an early lead with a powerful header past our former goalkeeper Emma Gibbon, following a superb delivery into the box from a Chloe Peplow corner.
Ashleigh Goddard had two chances to equalise for the Eagles shortly after our goal with a shot from distance sailing inches wide of the crossbar, before testing Chloe Morgan’s goal again with a header from six yards out.
Addison had two great opportunities to extend our lead before the break with a fierce strike from the left flank and then she found herself through on goal soon after but her chipped attempt flew just over the Palace goal.
The Eagles came extremely close to levelling the scoreline through Amy Goddard in the 78th minute but thankfully her volley from close range rattled the crossbar.
Graham scored her third goal in two games to eventually double our advantage with seven minutes remaining and it was yet another exquisite finish from the forward who punished the home defence for failing to clear their lines from a corner, before smashing a loose ball past Gibbon.
Two minutes later, substitute Quinn drilled a magnificent free-kick from 25 yards into the top corner to secure a comfortable win in matchday three of the Conti Cup.
At full-time, Juan said: “I think we really dominated the game but we also could have been a bit more clinical in front of goal. We had plenty of chances but we are very pleased for Anna Filbey, it was a great header at the back post and a great delivery from Chloe Peplow also. I think her (Chloe Peplow) deliveries today were different class so it’s easy to score when the ball comes in like that. We’re very happy to see Kit (Graham) score again, three goals in two games for her, and Lucy Quinn’s goal was fantastic because we work on free-kicks with her in training and I think her execution for the goal was 10 out of 10.”
