Report

Tottenham Hotspur Women were beaten 4-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

First half goals from Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema gave the Gunners the lead at the break, having dominated most of the ball in the opening exchanges.

Rafaelle Souza headed in early in the second half and Miedema got her second to complete the win for Arsenal.

Rehanne Skinner made three changes to the side that started last weekend's 2-1 win at Leicester City, So-hyun Cho, Celin Bizet and Kyah Simon coming in for Rosella Ayane, Angharad James and Asmita Ale.

Danger signs came from Mead early on, as her shot was deflected behind for an Arsenal corner in the third minute. Just two later, her right footed shot from the left of the side of the box put the home side in front.

Caitlin Foord latched onto a long ball down the left wing and the ball came out to Katie McCabe, who drilled over the bar.

Looking for her brace, Mead fired high and wide on the volley in the 22nd minute as Arsenal took control of the first half in terms of possession.

Sections of the 47,000 plus attendance at the Emirates thought Kim Little had Arsenal's second when she crashed the ball into the side netting from close range following a one-two with Stephanie-Elise Catley on the left.

Laura Wienroither struck over from the edge of the area just beyond the half-hour mark, and Bizet had our first real sight of goal in the 38th minute with a left-footed effort from long range that was too soft to trouble Manuela Zinsberger.

McCabe headed just past the far post from Foord's cross, before Arsenal increased their lead on the brink of half-time.

After Mead was caught offside when breaking into the final third, Becky Spencer's free-kick was played to Eveliina Summanen. She was dispossessed and Miedema burst through on goal, one-on-one with Spencer before tucking the ball into the bottom left corner.

Souza made it 3-0 to Arsenal early in the second half, heading into the top right from a Mead corner.

Rehanne made a triple substitution with just under half an hour to go, James, Ramona Petzelberger and Nikola Karczewska coming on for Cho, Drew Spence and Simon respectively.

In the 67th minute, a left-wing cross was headed in by Miedema for 4-0.

Ale was introduced to the second half with just over 15 minutes to go and Karczewska shot over the bar from distance, but we were unable to trouble the Arsenal defence and came away with our first defeat of the season.
