We were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Women's Super League on Sunday afternoon.
Leah Galton's second half strike gave the away side the lead, before Bethany England equalised in emphatic fashion. But United responded straight away, forcing a Molly Bartrip own goal to go ahead again.
Rehanne Skinner named an unchanged side from last weekend's 3-2 defeat at home to Chelsea.
Amy Turner did well to clear an Alessia Russo cross early on, after she'd been sent forward by Katie Zelem. We charged forward on the counter, England carrying the ball down the left wing and her cross being cushioned back to Mary Earps.
Ashleigh Neville struck the crossbar from just outside the 18-yard box, but was judged to be in an offside position when she received the ball from Celin Bizet.
United had their first real chance of the game when a ball over the top for Galton was fired over the bar, Shelina Zadorsky closing down United's number 11 to force the miss.
The visitors had the ball in the back of the net when Galton headed Ona Batlle's cross into the bottom right corner but, again, the flag was raised for offside.
We came close to taking the lead in the 24th minute. Surrounded by United shirts, Neville did really well to tuck the ball through to England. Striking first time, she hit the ball just over the bar. It would have been a fine way to score the opener.
Nikita Parris saw a right-wing cross fizz out for a goal-kick on the half-hour mark and England went for goal from a tight angle at the other end following some smart link-up play between Neville and Eveliina Summanen on the left wing. The shot was blocked by Millie Turner.
We continued to defend resolutely as the first half came to a close, before going into the break at 0-0.
Galton struck into the side netting early in the second half and Russo's effort met the same fate after she received a cross from Hannah Blundell.
Toone came close to breaking the deadlock for United as she struck the post with a low, driven effort, before we countered really well through Kerys Harrop, Neville, and Mana Iwabuchi. The latter put a good ball into the box but no-one was on the end of it.
Tinja-Riikka Korpela showed good reflexes to react to a deflected shot from Russo moments later to keep the clean sheet intact, but United made the breakthrough in the 67th minute when a cross from the right was converted by Galton.
Rosella Ayane came on for Celin Bizet for our first change of the game, and we then found the equaliser through a moment of England magic.
Cutting in from the left wing, Bethany slammed the ball past Earps into the bottom right corner, completing the move with a knee slide in front of a packed, noisy Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
But the scores were only level again for a matter of minutes, as United took the ball up the other end and put a cross into the box, which Bartrip could only put into our own net with an attempted clearance.
United were then reduced to ten, Toone sent off for a challenge on Summanen. Angharad James came on for Amy Turner as we went in search of another equaliser.
Despite mounting the pressure late on into five minutes of stoppage time, and Iwabuchi crossing for England to head just wide, we were unable to find a second goal.
