Report

We were beaten 5-1 at home to Arsenal in the Women's Super League on Sunday afternoon. Stina Blackstenius gave the away side an early lead and Caitlin Foord doubled it in the 28th minute. Bethany England reduced the arrears from the penalty spot with half-time approaching, but Kim Little scored from the spot in the second half to make it three. Foord added another in off the post moments later, and Frida Maanum curled one over Tinja-Riikka Korpela with 13 minutes remaining.

Interim Head Coach Vicky Jepson made one change to the side that began last week's 1-0 win against Leicester City, Celin Bizet replacing Nikola Karzcewska.

Rosella Ayane poked the ball into a dangerous area early on, but Sabrina D'Angelo got down to gather possession.

Leah Williamson then sent Blackstenius through on goal at the other end, who smashed the ball past Korpela for an early opener.

Drew Spence and Celin Bizet linked up well on the right, the latter drifting in to pick out England in the 18-yard box. She touched it back into Spence's path and the shot was fired wide.

Korpela had to think fast to catch a cross from Frida Maanum after it deflected off of Kerys Harrop, before Amy Turner made a vital slide tackle on Blackstenius to concede a corner.

With half an hour played, Foord carried the ball to the edge of the 18-yard box and struck in off the post into the bottom right corner for 2-0.

Korpela made another key save, coming off her line quickly to deny Victoria Pelova moments later, and we then had our best spell of the first half.

Following a spell of possession in the final third, Katie McCabe handled the ball in the penalty area and England stepped up to dispatch into the bottom left corner to pull one back.

Bizet shot hight over the bar on the brink of half-time and we went into the break one goal behind.

Little shot straight at Korpela as Arsenal looked for a third early in the second half, before McCabe drew a foul from Turner for a penalty. Little scored into the top left for 3-1.

In the 70th minute, an Arsenal cross came all the way to Foord at the far post, and she tucked it in at the near post for 4-1.

With 13 minutes remaining, Maanum curled the ball over the top of Korpela to make the score 5-1 to Arsenal.
