Report

Second-half goals from Paul Dickov and Matthew Piper gave Leicester the three points and brought the curtain down on 111 years of football at Filbert Street.

With the Foxes kicking off Division One life next season at the Walkers Stadium, they wanted to finish at Filbert Street on a real high.

Teddy Sheringham looked like he had spoiled the farewell party with a 54th minute penalty which gave Spurs the lead.

But Micky Adams' side battled back to claim all three points with Muzzy Izzet, in possibly his last Leicester appearance, working hard throughout.

Spurs had much the better of the opening exchanges with Sheringham and Anderton linking up well - but they failed to make it count.

But the game really came to life after 54 minutes when Lee Marshall clumsily fouled Stephen Clemence on the edge of the area.

Referee David Ellery awarded a penalty and Sheringham stepped up to send the ball past his former team-mate Ian Walker for his 13th goal of the season.

The England striker had had a chance just moments earlier when his right-footed shot was acrobatically tipped over the bar by Walker.

But Spurs' lead was short-lived. On the hour, Marshall made amends for conceding the penalty by breaking through into the Spurs penalty area.

Celebration time

The ball fell perfectly for striker Dickov and he made no mistake, beating the diving Kasey Keller.

The home fans turned up the volume after the Scottish frontman's fifth goal since arriving from Manchester City.

And they were singing even louder on 70 minutes when youngster Piper claimed his first senior goal for the club, bravely heading home Matt Elliott's flick-on.

The home fans were cheered even more by the substitute appearance of stalwart Gerry Taggart, in his first match for 14 months after major knee surgery.

Sheringham had a late chance to seal a draw but Walker held his shot and Leicester were able to breathe a sigh of relief.

The result sees Spurs slip two places in the table, finishing the season in ninth place - while Leicester go down as the Premiership's bottom side.

After the game, Micky Adams confirmed that defender Gary Rowett would be joining Charlton for £3.5m.
