Report

Crystal Palace boosted their survival hopes after a splendid second-half display stunned Tottenham. The visitors dominated the first half but Eagles keeper Gabor Kiraly tipped Reto Ziegler's fierce drive over and palmed Dean Marney's effort to safety.

After the break, Mikele Leigertwood powered into the six-yard box and crashed Tom Soares' cross into the net.

Danny Granville slid home a second from 12 yards before Andy Johnson fired in a penalty after Pedro Mendes fouled him.

The top English goalscorers in the Premiership - Jermain Defoe for Spurs and Andy Johnson for Palace - were on show, but despite some enterprising build-up play from both sides, the final ball was lacking far too often.

Defoe wasted the opening chance of the game, blazing over from 15 yards after just five minutes and had few chances after, while Johnson was starved of service.

Danny Granville came closest to giving the Eagles the lead, but his 25-yard free-kick was comfortbaly saved low to his right by Paul Robinson after Nourredine Naybet had fouled Johnson.

At the other end, Reto Ziegler curled a Spurs free-kick just over the bar from a similar distance after Michael Hughes was adjudged to have brought down Keane - Hughes was booked for showing dissent while the ball was moved forward 10 yards.

Kiraly then produced two fine saves to ensure Palace went in at the break on level terms.

First, he pushed Ziegler's fierce drive from an acute angle over and then palmed a Marney half-volley from the edge of the box to safety.

Spurs started the second-half brightly but were unable to break down the home side - Michael Carrick going close with a low 20-yard effort that dribbled wide.

And Spurs were made to pay for their missed chances as Leigertwood arrived late in the six-yard box to power Soares' back-post cross into the net off the crossbar to score his first goal for the Eagles.

Tottenham target Wayne Routledge then provided the killer slide-rule pass for Granville to beat the Spurs offside trap and tuck his shot past Paul Robinson.

A shell-shocked Spurs were further stunned when Johnson smashed in Palace's third goal in 11 minutes from the penalty spot.

Johnson was upended by Mendes as he powered into the box and the Eagles striker confidently stroked the ball down the middle as Robinson dived to his right.

Dougie Freedman almost added a fourth for Palace late on, but his weak shot was easily saved by Robinson.
