Report

Luis Boa Morte and Andy Cole lifted Fulham boss Chris Coleman's spirits but consigned Jacques Santini's Tottenham to their third straight league loss.

Boa Morte made the home side's dominance pay as he slotted home Steed Malbranque's cross after 33 minutes.

The Portuguese striker turned provider in the second half when he set up Cole, whose neat header made it 2-0.

Jermain Defoe, watched by England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson, was off-target as Spurs' attack continued to misfire.

Bathed in the sunshine at Craven Cottage, Fulham started the match with renewed vigour.

German Moritz Volz saw his long-distance shot bundled out of trouble in the opening minute.

And Tottenham's defence reliably held firm when Boa Morte and Collins John, in for the injured Claus Jensen, tried to weave their way through.

Jacques Santini's side preferred to sit back but looked a threat on the break.

England striker Defoe utilized his pace to turn play in Tottenham's favour but his shot was blocked by Zat Knight.

The 22-year-old again came close to breaking the deadlock in the 26th minute but Defoe did not have his sights clearly set on goal and his effort from the right sailed wide.

Paul Robinson proved himself at the opposite end when he came off his line early to smother the ball at Fulham captain Cole's feet.

But there was nothing the Spurs keeper could do moments later when the lively Boa Morte gave Fulham the lead after 33 minutes.

The Portuguese forward picked up Malbranque's pass from the left and coolly clipped it into the corner for his fourth Premiership goal of the season.

Fulham were denied a swift second when John directed his header straight at Robinson, who clasped the ball to his chest.

Noe Pamarot and Defoe epitomised Tottenham's wasteful play after the break as both missed early opportunities to get Spurs back on level terms.

Spurs' lack of firepower told when Cole doubled Fulham's lead after 61 minutes.

Boa Morte flicked the ball across from the left and the captain leaned back to head home.

With the momentum in Fulham's favour, Robinson did well to collect himself - and the ball - to deny John quickly making it 3-0.

Santini tried to breathe new life into the Spurs' attack, bringing on Freddie Kanoute in place of Reto Ziegler.

But it was Fulham who showed more endeavour and promise going forward.

Boa Morte demonstrated great control as he stretched to bring the ball down in mid-air but he was not able to find the final touch.

Papa Bouba Diop then tried to get in on the act with a fizzing 30-yard strike only to see it fly inches over the bar.

And Cole almost grabbed his second but the England number one palmed away his shot.

Fulham mopped up some late pressure from Spurs but held on to move further away from the foot of the Premiership and put an end to their losing streak.
