Report

Wes Brown also scored to help Paolo Di Canio's men into the Barclays Asia Trophy final in a match played in truly atrocious conditions.

Sunderland made short work of Tottenham in the Barclays Asia Trophy as goals from Wes Brown - returning from injury - Cabral and David Moberg Karlsson helped the Black Cats to victory.

Paolo Di Canio's men will now face either Manchester City or South China in Saturday's final after putting in an accomplished display in tough, wet Hong Kong conditions.

The match was delayed by 30 minutes because of torrential rain, while each half was shortened to 80 minutes in game that understandably lacked fluid football.

But Sunderland found their rhythm the better and came from behind to secure the win.

But Sunderland found their rhythm the better and came from behind to secure the win.

Gylfi Sigurdsson opened the scoring in the first half with a deflected effort following good work from Kyle Walker down the right.

One of Di Canio's new signings Cabral leveled things up after capitalising on Tom Huddlestone's error in midfield.

And 33-year-old Brown - who hadn't played in nearly a year - was gifted a free header in the 64th minute to send the Black Cats ahead.

Vito Mannone kept Sunderland in it with some fine second-half saves, including a one-handed parry from Jermain Defoe's shot.

Jozy Altidore could have sealed the win nine minutes from time but was denied by Brad Friedel - who also made a fine save from Connor Wickham's near-post header - but the keeper could do nothing to prevent Karlsson from making it 3-1 in the final minute.

There was further bad news for Andre Villas-Boas as Jan Vertonghen was stretchered off following an awkward landing in the second-half.

Di Canio, however, will be full of optimism following a busy summer in the transfer market.
