Our pre-season campaign concluded with another first for our new stadium - a penalty shoot-out.

Inter took the honours 4-3 from the spot after our International Champions Cup (ICC) match ended 1-1 in front of an impressive 58,905 attendance at our new home on Sunday.

Earlier, Tanguy Ndombele made his home debut and Lucas Moura scored for the third time this summer as we started brightly only for the Italians to work their way back into the game and level through Stefano Sensi in the first half. Chances were few and far between in the second half - Heung-Min Son closest for us, denied late by Samir Handanovic - and at 1-1, the match went to the penalty spot.

Christian Eriksen had his first attempt saved, Paulo Gazzaniga responded by keeping out George Puscas but when Oliver Skipp was denied by Handanovic, it was left to Joao Mario to convert for 4-3 to the visitors.

We looked bright as a button from the first whistle and it was no surprise to see us take an early lead. Erik Lamela led the charge through the middle with Lucas to his right and Harry Kane to his left. He went right to Lucas, who raced onto the ball just outside the box, shifted right of Milan Skriniar and belted home past Handanovic.

We controlled the early stages but Inter started to get a foothold. Estevao Dalbert headed straight at Hugo Lloris, Ivan Perisic dragged an effort wide and after Kane skied a free-kick, Marcelo Brozovic let rip from 25 yards only to see his searing effort hit the inside of the post and bounce to safety.

The equaliser followed on 36 minutes. It started with a switch of play from Antonio Candreva under pressure, Dalbert played inside and Sebastiano Esposito's touch sent Sensi clear through the middle, the striker eventually placing into the corner from 10 yards.

There were moments of magic from Ndombele and a couple of typical bursts from Moussa Sissoko but that was it for the first half.

The second half was a little scrappy. Lamela had a shooting chance on the hour after we won possession in Inter's box but Stefan de Vrij threw himself in to block.

The next chances were at the other end. Toby Alderweireld blocked Perisic, Dalbert's cross cannoned off Davinson Sanchez thankfully straight to Lloris, Federico Dimarco's cross was inches away from Puscas sliding in and Nicola Barella's 25-yarder was easy for Gazzaniga, another of many second half substitutes.

Another substitute, Son, had the final chance of note, breaking from deep and into the box only for Handanovic to tip his fierce drive from the left angle past the post.

Speaking afterwards, Mauricio Pochettino told us: "The game is there to build our confidence, our business, many things. I am positive. I think the team competed very well but still we need to improve in all areas. Inter started before us and for us, it was a challenge playing in Singapore, China and then the Audi Cup against tough opposition. That’s why I think we’ve competed well. We’re not at 100 per cent, but we still have one week to be ready to compete in our best way back here next weekend (Saturday, 5.30pm) against Aston Villa."
