Report

Tottenham fought back from two-goals down to secure a deserved point against Brighton.

The Seagulls were second best for much of the match but found themselves 2-0 up after 31 minutes thanks to Yankuba Minteh's early strike and Yasin Ayari's powerful drive.

However, Richarlison halved the deficit just before half-time when he stopped a shot by Mohammed Kudus before slotting in.

Spurs dominated the second half but their finishing let them down as Richarlison and substitute Xavi Simons were both unable to make the most of promising opportunities.

But the equaliser came eight minutes from time when Jan Paul van Hecke turned Kudus' cross into his own net.

Spurs then pushed for a winner as they looked to continue their impressive start to the season, but Brighton held on for the point.

This has been a fine start for new coach Thomas Frank, with Tottenham having lost just once so far this season under the former Brentford boss.

That good form has been built on a platform of a strong defence, with Spurs having conceded just once prior to the trip to Brighton.

It therefore made their start to this game all the more perplexing, as their high line was caught out by the home side's first proper attack when Minteh charged through to round the goalkeeper and score.

The defending was not much better for Brighton's second either, as Guglielmo Vicario should have perhaps done better than to just get a hand to Ayari's shot.

Despite that, Tottenham showed good character to battle back and take something from the game, although they will perhaps feel a little disappointed they did not claim all three points given their dominance and number of chances they have created.

The one area of concern under Frank is that a generally tighter defence has come at the cost of their attack - they finished this game with 11 shots on goal but just three on target.

Brighton impressively beat Manchester City in their previous home game and this game had the credentials for another eye-catching result against a side expected to also be battling for a top-four finish.

They did not see much of the ball against Tottenham but their gameplan was effective, looking dangerous on the break when such opportunities came.

While Spurs fully deserved their equaliser it ultimately came from a moment of misfortune from the Brighton defence.

While they were eight minutes away from a very impressive win, the draw does continue their unbeaten form at home this season despite some tricky fixtures.

It doesn't get any easier, with an away trip to Chelsea next up for the Seagulls in the Premier League.

Next up for Brighton is a trip to League One Barnsley in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, 23 September (19:45 BST).

Meanwhile, Tottenham host League One side Doncaster in the same competition on Wednesday, 24 September (19:45 BST).
