Report

Three goalkeepers, six goals, one hat-trick heroine — there is never a dull moment when Spurs Ladies are around!

Rebecca Lewis did the business to sink a treble in front of goal but even her goalscoring exploits were overshadowed by the bravery of goalkeeper Helen Wilson.

Wilson cracked her head on the goalpost in making a fine save at the end of the first half but despite being helped off in a daze, returned as an outfield player as Spurs, hit by injuries and illness, were still far too good for the home side.

Despite plenty of early pressure it took until the 35th minute for Spurs to make the breakthrough. Lucy Pinnock laid the ball into the path of skipper Jackie Fearon who lashed home from 30 yards.

Two minutes later and it was 2-0 as Pinnock shot home from the edge of the area from Teresa Broderick’s pass.

Wilson’s injury followed five minutes before the break and as her treatment continued off the pitch, Siw Wiggen took up the gloves for the rest of the half.

Wiggen kept her goal intact before handing the goalkeeper’s jersey to Katy D’Agostino in the second half. Protected well by her defence, D’Agostino had little to do as her side dominated.

It didn’t take long for the third goal to follow as Lewis tapped home from close range after Gill Blackmore’s shot was parried.

The same pair combined again for Lewis’s second and Spurs’ fourth goal and Pinnock made no mistake after a defensive blunder to make it 5-0.

With Wilson back on the pitch all that was left was for Lewis to complete her hat-trick and it duly followed when she raced onto Pinnock’s flick and made no mistake.

Spurs Ladies: Wilson, Wiltsher, Hammerin, Wiggen, D’Agostino, Broderick, Fearon, Pinnock, Blackmore, Lewis, Schillaci.
