Report

Spurs Ladies made it two wins in two in the FA Women's Premier League South on Sunday.

Two goals from Wendy Martin and one each from Chloe Burr and Andra Marcoci secured an excellent 4-1 victory at Lewes.

Having waited until October 21 for their first win of the campaign, manager Karen Hills is now confident the team will go from strength to strength - starting with Sunday's League Cup tie against FAWPL National Divsion side Watford, their third match in the competition's group format.

"It was a terrific performance against Lewes and just what we needed after our first win against Gillingham last time out," said Karen.

"The girls have contined to work hard even when results weren't going our way and they throughly deserve these results."

Sunday's match against Watford is at Harlow Town FC, kick-off 1pm.

LEWES 1-4 SPURS LADIES

Spurs Ladies built on their first win against Gillingham as a number of squad players stepped up to the plate on Sunday.

The team were without players due to injury so Robyn McEvoy, Chloe Burr and Davina Smith all came into the side and played their part.

Bianca Baptiste had already gone close by the time Wendy Martin opened the scoring in the fourth minute, rising high to head home Robyn's corner.

Having relied on their goalkeeper to keep them in the game, Lewes equalised just minutes into the second half.

Jo Ayre then made a top-class save before Spurs grabbed the all-important second goal as Robyn and Wendy combined again, Wendy heading home from Robyn's cross.

Jo saved well again at 2-1 and on the counter, Bianca Baptiste set-up Chloe for 3-1 with a powerful strike.

Bianca was denied by the home goalkeeper and Davina had an effort cleared off the line before Spurs finished it as another young player from the reserves, Andra Marcoci, grabbed the fourth goal.

"We controlled the middle of the park with Shannon Maloney, Amy Cooper and Wendy Martin all putting a great shift," said Karen.

"After Lewes drew level after half-time I felt they had the upper hand, but I was pleased we managed to soak up the pressure and it took a wonder goal from Wendy to quieten them again. She seems back to her best again after injury.

"With players coming into the side and performing so well, it gives me the sort of headache all managers like and we're now confident ahead of Watford on Sunday."

Spurs Ladies: Ayre, Pittuck, Schillaci, McEvoy, Chessman, Maloney, Cooper, Burr (Marcoci, 78), Baptiste, Martin, Smith.
