Spurs Ladies completed an 11-hour round trip with three points after a fine win at Plymouth in the FA Women's Premier League South on Sunday. The squad set-off at 8am for a five-and-a-half-hour journey and returned victorious at 11pm. Goals from Wendy Martin, Jenna Schillaci and Andra Marcoci secured the points and kept the team on the coattails of the leaders. "It's always tough," said manager Karen Hills. "We arrived in Plymouth about 30 minutes before kick-off, had a short warm-up and then straight into the game. "It took about 20 minutes to shake the journey out of our legs but once we got into our stride we were okay. "We created a few chances and Bianca Baptiste was denied a couple of times by the goalkeeper. We puit a lot of pressure on, had corners but credit to Plymouth, the defended well. "Plymouth then scored completely against the run of play just before the hour after we failed to clear a free-kick. "That was a bit of a shock to the system but we recovered quickly and Wendy equalised with a strike just inside the penalty area. "We then won a penalty for handball and Jenna tucked it away for 2-1. "That was the key spell in the game as moments after that, Wendy got back to clear off the line. "We brought on three substitutes - Andra Marcoci, Danya Chung and Riana Soobadoo, who was with us as a junior and has just come back from a scholarship in America - and all three combined for the final goal, finished by Andra. "It was a good win for us, we took the game to them but we just needed the third goal. "After such a long trip, there's nothing better than a win!" That win kicked-off a huge week for Spurs Ladies. They take on Gillingham, also from the FAWPL South, in the semi-final of the Ryman Women's Cup at Ware FC on Thursday (7.45pm) before a home tie against FAWPL North contenders Preston North End in the FA Women's Cup also at Ware FC on Sunday.
