Report

Spurs Ladies produced their best half of the season to put QPR to the sword in the FA Women's Premier League South on Sunday. Avilla Bergin struck twice and Katie O'Leary fired home the third as the ladies raced into a 3-0 lead inside half-hour at Uxbridge FC. QPR pulled a goal back in the second half as Spurs ran out 3-1 winners to stay hot on the heels of the leaders in the Southern Division. "Everything came together in that first half," reported manager Karen Hills. "We controlled possession and showed great movement, pressure, energy, composure on the ball and when our chances came, we were clinical. "The first goal came from a corner on seven minutes, Katie O'Leary headed back for Avilla Bergin to finish into the top corner. "The second goal after 14 minutes came from Bianca Baptiste's run down the right, she crossed low and Katie was there to rifle home. "We were basically camped in their half and QPR struggled to deal with our front three of Avilla, Katie and Bianca. "The third goal came on 30 minutes and started with Lucia Leon winning possession and finding Bianca, she broke forward again and crossed for Avilla to score at the far post. "It was an excellent first half, Maya Vio covered every blade of grass and we continued to create chances at the start of the second half but the final pass let us down on a few occasions. "We made a few changes in the second half including a debut for Dayna Chong, who has joined us from Millwall." The ladies next travel to highly-fancied Portsmouth – seven wins and a draw from nine matches – on Sunday. Meanwhile, the team has been drawn at home to fellow FAWPL side Copeswood (Coventry) in the second round of the FA Women's Cup with the tie to be played on Sunday, January 11. Spurs Ladies vs QPR: Toni-Anne Wayne; Lucia Leon, Robyn Downie, Jenna Schillaci, Sophie McLean; Shannon Moloney, Wendy Martin, Maya Vio (Dayna Chong, 75); Bianca Baptiste (Andra Marcoci, 65), Katie O'Leary (Jade Skillen, 60), Avilla Bergin.
