After Tuesday's disappointing derby defeat to West Ham Ladies at the Boleyn Ground, Spurs Ladies ensured they bounced back brilliantly with a dominant performance in a 4-2 win at Plymouth Argyle. Despite the early morning travel, Karen Hills' side came out flying. With just two minutes on the clock, Wendy Martin held up possession well prior to playing a pass through to Kelley Blanchflower, who calmly found the bottom corner past Michaela Phillips for her debut goal. After 12 minutes, Spurs found themselves doubling their lead. Shannon Moloney broke away down the right flank before her near perfect delivery fell to Martin and she made no mistake. The first chance for the hosts fell to Ezme Wells, though she could only watch as her effort flew over the bar. Spurs’ rearguard remained strong with Jenna Schillaci and Alex Keown denying Plymouth's front line, giving the North London outfit the momentum to add a third after 25 minutes. Lucia Leon did well to get past Phoebe Baker, prior to finding Martin inside the box who grabbed her second of the afternoon with a neat finish. Blanchflower then placed an effort inches wide and just before half-time, Martin caused more trouble for Argyle after freeing herself down the right and her thunderous effort had Phillips beaten – but not the post. Straight after half-time it was end-to-end. First Toni-Anne Wayne did superbly to deny Wells' one-on-one chance, before at the other end, Riana Soobadoo found Blanchflower with a cutting pass and she was denied from close range by Phillips. Pushing for a fourth, Soobadoo found Rosie Kmita inside the area who arrowed her strike against the post. Soon after, Argyle found their way back into the game with a clinical finish from Amber Pollock inside the area. Nevertheless, the deficit was restored a minute later. Straight from kick-off, Soobadoo's pass was deflected into the path of the returning Bianca Baptiste, who finished superbly after 65 minutes. Pollock then grabbed her second of the game after breaking in on goal, and despite Wayne keeping out her initial effort, the shot-stopper could do nothing to deny her second attempt. With the final whistle about to be blown, Sophie McLean made a goal saving block from Rebecca Atkins to keep the score, and points, securely in Spurs' favour.
