Report

Spurs Ladies’ unbeaten start to the season continued, though not in the fashion the Lilywhites would have been hoping for after they had to come from a goal behind to earn a share of the spoils against C&K Basildon at Cheshunt FC. The visitors started the brightest, with Jenna Schillaci called into action to prevent Amy Nash's pass finding Karissa Ronney. Bianca Baptiste broke away forcing a palm-stinging stop from Nikita Runnacles and Nikita Whinnett struck the follow-up into the side-netting. The opening goal arrived after 13 minutes, Lily Mellors stroking home from six-yards from Nash’s free-kick. Spurs piled on the pressure. Baptiste hit the post, Zoe Rushen cleared as Renée Hector aimed for Eartha Pond's corner and Lucia Leon's cross evaded Baptiste. Into the second half and Runnacles had to be at her best to deny Leon before C&K struck the woodwork via Nash's lob. Spurs responded with a Baptiste drive from distance before finding a deserved leveller as Riana Soobadoo fired low into the corner from 25 yards. Hector and Wendy Martin were then agonisingly close to meeting Baptiste's free-kick. Shannon Moloney broke away down the right pinpointing Whinnett from six-yards out only for Samantha Booker to toe-poke the ball away from danger. Baptiste and Martin set-up Leon, whose curler was blocked and then Runnacles did well to keep out Baptiste's free-kick. Against the run of play, C&K had a final chance to snatch the points but Toni-Anne Wayne positioned herself perfectly to block Ronney's volley. Spurs Ladies: Toni-Anne Wayne, Lucia Leon, Renée Hector, Jenna Schillaci, Eartha Pond (Shannon Moloney 71), Josephine Green, Maya Vio (Kelley Blanchflower 46), Riana Soobadoo, Nikita Whinnett (Cheryl Williams 79), Bianca Baptiste, Wendy Martin. Substitutes (unused): Megen Lynch, Alex Keown.
