Report

Spurs Ladies matched Chelsea's development side and had the better of the chances but had to settle for a 1-1 draw on Sunday. Spurs made their presence felt early on. Nikita Whinnett gathered a loose pass from Abi Mills before breaking away into the area and finding Maya Vio, who could only fire over. At the other end, Alessia Russo guided her strike towards the far corner forcing Toni-Anne Wayne to claw away at full-stretch. The visitors scored on 14 minutes, Russo’s initial shot was blocked but she followed-up with a half-volley from just outside the area. Bianca Baptiste rolled an attempt across the face of goal, a four-way move between Lucia Leon, Baptiste, Katie O'Leary and Riana Soobadoo ended with the latter finding Whinnett to shoot wide. Soobadoo, Leon and O’Leary combined for another flowing move, though again Spurs failed to find the net with the latter firing across goal. Despite a flurry of changes to begin the second-half, the hosts’ momentum didn’t falter. Soobadoo slid a pass through to Whinnett who turned away from Renni Thompson and arrowed her shot past the upright. Jenna Schillaci’s well-worked corner saw Leah Rawle’s cross find Whinnett who sliced an attempt wide. Megen Lynch denied Lauren Pickett one-on-one. Leon’s effort was close to finding its way inside the near-post until Ocean Rolandsen managed to steer the ball away. With 79 minutes on the clock, Soobadoo’s pass saw Kelley Blanchflower test Fran Kitching, who palmed away her effort but Vio was there to tap home. In the final minutes, Schillaci’s corner found Renée Hector who could have won it, but couldn’t guide her header on target. Spurs Ladies: Toni-Anne Wayne, Lucia Leon, Renée Hector, Jenna Schillaci, Sophie McLean, Maya Vio, Riana Soobadoo, Josephine Green, Katie O'Leary, Nikita Whinnett, Bianca Baptiste, Megen Lynch, Leah Rawle, Shannon Moloney, Kelley Blanchflower.
