Spurs Ladies ended their preparation ahead of the new season in fine fashion with a 2-0 win against WSL side Reading’s development squad.
Spurs started the brightest. Lucia Leon headed just wide from Eartha Pond's corner and Wendy Martin had a double chance a minute apart, first heading Pond’s corner over before glancing another Pond delivery just wide.
Martin then won but missed a penalty on the half-hour and Spurs went close again, this time Georgia Clifford made a double block to deny Renee Hector’s header from Pond’s corner, before clearing Whinnett’s follow-up.
The deserved goal followed on 40 minutes. Sophie McLean found Whinnett who skilfully flicked the ball into the path of the overlapping Shannon Moloney and her cross was tapped home by Kelley Blanchflower.
Just four minutes later, Leanne Mabey found Martin and her cross floated over Valentine and home for 2-0.
Daisy Mclachlan went close for Reading at the start of the second half but it was soon Spurs on the attack again. Pond’s free-kick fell to Chloe Gunn who fired over, Whinnett also couldn't keep a shot down and Blanchflower was denied a goal by the offside flag.
Toni-Anne Wayne did well to deny Clifford and Hannah Knapton rattled the crossbar late on.
