Report

The north London derby ended in defeat for Spurs Women on Saturday (27 March) after a 3-0 loss to Arsenal in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

Goals from Caitlin Foord, Vivianne Miedema and Katie McCabe secured the win for the Gunners in an occasion played against the backdrop of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Rehanne Skinner made two changes to the side that drew 1-1 with Bristol City last Sunday (21 March), with Josie Green and Gemma Davison replacing Angela Addison and Ria Percival in the starting XI.

Rianna Dean came close after 23 minutes when she held off Lotte Wubben-Moy and fired away a shot, which was deflected behind for a corner. Arsenal opened the scoring three minutes later, though, as Foord and Noelle Maritz linked up with a one-two on the right wing as the former received possession in the box and slotted home low.

Goalkeeper Becky Spencer denied Jordan Nobbs twice with a pair of stunning saves, first beating away Nobbs’ 28th-minute curling effort before six minutes later tipping the England international’s powerful strike over the crossbar.

The visitors doubled their lead 10 minutes before half-time, when Miedema connected first-time with McCabe’s out-swinging corner to fire home a left-footed volley. The Gunners added a third after 61 minutes when McCabe capitalised on short passing between our defence before darting into the box and placing the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.

As the second half drew on, we created dangerous opportunities as we determinedly hunted for a goal. Green tried her luck from long range after 67 minutes, forcing Manuela Zinsberger to parry away while 10 minutes later, a flurry of shots by Kit Graham, Rachel Williams and Addison were all somehow saved by Gunners keeper Zinsberger in quick succession.

The result means we remain in eighth place in the WSL. We’re back in action next Sunday (4 April) when we return to The Hive to host Manchester City (2pm).
