Report

Victoria Pelova scored twice as Tottenham maintained their unbeaten start to the Women's Super League season with a 4-0 victory over winless Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old, who signed from Arsenal in the summer, has now scored four times in her past two starts to move level with Manchester City's Bunny Shaw at the top of the golden boot standings, with Caitlin Dijkstra and Cathinka Tandberg putting the game to bed in the final 10 minutes.

The win moves Tottenham up to second in the table, with three wins from their opening four matches, and extends their unbeaten streak in the WSL to a club record seven matches – a run stretching back to last March.

The hosts were dominant throughout the match, registering 35 shots, but were frustrated in the first half.

Defender Dijkstra had a close-range strike cleared off the line by Lynn Wilms in the 17th minute but Spurs lacked a clinical touch in the final third and frequently resorted to shots from distance in the face of Villa's dogged defence.

However, after firing seven second-half goals past Crystal Palace last weekend, they once again turned on the style in the second period.

Pelova opened the scoring in the 54th minute, tapping in Signe Gaupset's low cross, before linking up with captain Drew Spence to double her side's lead. Picked out in acres of space in the box, the Netherlands international whipped a left-footed effort in off the bar.

Fellow summer signing Dijkstra added Tottenham's third eight minutes later, nodding home Julie Blakstad's cross at the back post, before Tandberg wrapped up the win in the 88th minute, reacting fastest to a loose ball after Akane Okuma had parried Matilda Vinberg's long-range strike.

Villa slip down three places to 13th in the table and are still searching for their first win of the season, with two draws and two defeats from four games.
