A great save by former Dens Park keeper Bill Brown from Bobby Cox two minutes from time robbed Dundee of an equaliser In thrill-packed friendly last night.
It was all-action stuff from the first whistle and if Dundee were slower in building up their attacks then the mercurial English First Division leaders they matched their opponents in spirit and determination.
Dundee played their finest football of the season with Andy Penman demonstrating all his skill. Donaldson was in great form in the home goal while Alex Kinnonmonth was a revelation on the right half.
Spurs were best served by Brown and Mackay in defence while lightning speed of Robertson and two-goal Jimmy Greaves was a constant menace to the Dens Park defence.
Greaves put Tottenham ahead in the second minute. His defence-splitting pass found Jones unmarked and on the left wing, Houston got himself in a tangle trying to dribble the wingers cross clear and GREAVES was quick to slip the ball home from six yards.
In the 11th minute after Cox had cleared a Robertson header on the line, Dundee raced upfield and Brown saved well at McLeans feet.
Campbell left the field with a thigh injury after 19 minutes. Scott taking over. Kinninmonth had a shot blocked after he had intercepted a Venables pass and penetrated deep into the Londoners territory.
Seven minutes before the interval GREAVES was again on the spot when he ram the ball home after Jones speed had carried him past the Dundee defenders.
Right on half-time, Donaldson did well to punch out a Mullery drive and then still on the ground, he tipped a shot from Jones round the post.
Weller replaced Jones on the Tottenham left wing for the second half.
Kinnonmonth opened Dundee's account in the 49th minute when a low angular 18-yarder from a Penman pass.
Dundee were unlucky not to equalise on the 59th minute when a Camerson shot struck the keeper's foot and came back off the crossbar to Hamilton, whose drive was beaten down by Brown. Clayton scrambled the ball clear and Spurs moved upfield where Robertson sent over a low centre that MACKAY met on the run to crash in a tremendous 18-yarder.
The London side seemed quite content with their 3-1 lead and fell back on the defensive but were caught on the hop in the 79th minute when MCLEAN raced in to head a free kick from the left past Brown.
Dundee went all out for the equaliser but were foiled by the Brown's brilliant goalkeeping.
