4-2 v Charlton Athletic - 7 February 2001 - Away

George Graham's under-fire Tottenham produced a sensational fight-back to secure a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup and a home tie against Stockport.

Spurs fought back from two down to hammer four second-half goals and send Charlton crashing out.

An own-goal from Richard Rufus plus strikes from Darren Anderton, Oyvind Leonhardsen and Sergei Rebrov turned the game on its head and lent more weight to the old legend that Spurs are destined to win the Cup when the year ends in '1'.

When Matt Svensson drove home just after half-time to put the Addicks two up, Spurs looked dead and buried.

But with Charlton pouring forward, Spurs found a lifeline when Gary Doherty's cross-shot was put into his own net by the toe of Richard Rufus' boot.

Then Anderton's free-kick from 25 yards bent past the wall and squirmed through the hands of stand-in keeper Sasa Ilic.

Would first-choice Dean Kiely have saved it? Probably.

Within a minute no-one cared.

Rufus was caught out of position and Leonhardsen raced through to shoot past Ilic into the far corner.

After six hours without a goal, Spurs had scored three in the time it takes to sing a decent chorus of 'We Want Graham Out,'.

Had Rebrov kept his head and hit the net rather than Ilic's legs when set up by the impressive Doherty a few moments later, it would have been even worse for Alan Curbishley's shell-shocked side.

He made up for that miss before the end, flicking Doherty's through-ball delicately over the keeper to send the away contingent into delirium.

The manner in which the game started promised little but more pain for Tottenham supporters.

The first goal they have seen in a month of watching their club came on 11 minutes, and was not the one they had been waiting for.

Perry, Anderton and goalkeeper Sullivan all left Svensson's harmless-looking dink to each other - and Powell nipped in to head into the unguarded net.

Spurs can't say they weren't warned - similar defensive hesitation in the first five minutes almost led to Scott Parker beating Sullivan to the ball when the young midfielder shouldn't have stood a chance.

Two minutes after the goal Svensson came close to doubling the lead when he was given time and space to curl in a shot, but it flew just over the angle of bar and post.

Spurs had wasted two early chances through Rebrov and Leonhardsen, and had to wait until Sol Campbell took an opportunistic dig from 25 yards to force Sasa Ilic into a save.

The gangling keeper then did well to block from Sherwood after Rebrov's deflected shot inadvertently created a chance, and then watched the Ukrainian shoot wide from Doherty's pull-back.
