Match Report

Les Ferdinand scored the 10,000th goal in the Premiership and Teddy Sheringham made his 700th league appearance as Spurs chalked up another three points.

Ferdinand also played a part in Spurs' second goal which was scored by Darren Anderton just before the interval.

Simon Davies and Sergei Rebrov claimed Spurs' other goals in the second half.

The win pushed Glenn Hoddle's side up to sixth place, level on points with Manchester United, as they maintained their push for a European place.

Fulham's defeat was the first time Jean Tigana's team had lost in nine matches and followed their impressive goalless draw at Liverpool.

But the day belonged to the 35-year-old Ferdinand.

Having scored a hat-trick in the 6-0 League Cup win over Bolton Wanderers in midweek, Ferdinand claimed his 10th goal of the season and a place in the Premiership record books.

The Premier League's first goal had been scored by Brian Deane for Sheffield United in a 2-1 win over Manchester United in August 1992.

Nine years on Ferdinand will be given £10,000 pounds to donate to a charity of his choice for his landmark goal.

It came as a result of good work by Simon Davies and Anderton.

Steffen Freund won a tackle and the ball rebounded to Davies on the wing.

He played a first-time pass into the path of Anderton, and the some-time England midfielder picked out Ferdinand with a low cross which he comfortably slotted home.

The 10,000th Premiership goal went to Ferdinand

Before he was replaced by Sergei Rebrov midway through the second half, Ferdinand had enjoyed an action-packed game.

After 32 minutes he went down following a clash of heads with Rufus Brevett, but he carried on after a couple of minutes' treatment.

Soon after he was booked as he challenged Sylvain Legwinski in the air.

Then on 40 minutes Sheringham nodded the ball to Ferdinand in the box and he held it up nicely before teeing-up Anderton to rifle a low drive past Edwin van der Sar.

Fulham should have pulled one back in injury time.

Steve Finnan's low cross from the right was missed by Chris Perry, but Barry Hayles blasted over from 12 yards.

Perry came to Tottenham's rescue after 55 minutes, making an important saving tackle as Saha was about to shoot from close range.

Davies and Ferdinand's replacement Rebrov wrapped up the scoring for Spurs in the game's later stages.
