Match Report

Jermain Defoe was straight back on the goal trail as we drew against FC Copenhagen at Gothenberg's Ullevi Stadium on Thursday night.

The England striker scored a goal out of nothing to put us 2-1 up against the Danish champions in this second friendly of our Swedish training camp.

Having looked at the youngsters against Falkenbergs FF on Tuesday, Jacques Santini fielded a full-strength side - including debutant Sean Davis - for what was an evenly-contested friendly and a decent performance against a side just about to kick-off their domestic and Champions League campaigns.

Defoe's moment of magic arrived after 58 minutes. Stephen Carr cut infield from the right but nothing looked on when Defoe picked the ball up centrally 30 yards out.

But he stepped on the gas, sprinted away from Bo Svensson and into the box before calmly side-footing into the corner beyond Magnus Kihlstedt.

Defoe, who just missed out on England's Euro 2004 squad, looked sharp and deservedly won man of the match.

It looked as if his strike would be enough but FC Copenhagen substitute Thomas Roll Larsen curled home a fine equaliser after 77 minutes.

The Danes had two chances via the head of Todi Jonsson to nick it in the last 10 minutes - the first was cleared off the line and Jonsson then missed the target from six yards in the game's last chance.

The first half was less eventful and edged by FC Copenhagen. They went ahead inside five minutes when a mix-up on the edge of the box allowed Alvaro Santos to dink the ball over Keller and tap home.

Defoe set up our first chance, headed over by Johnnie Jackson, but we levelled a minute later when Dean Richards powered home Michael Brown's corner.
