Tottenham eased past Nottingham Forest to set up an FA Cup trip to Newcastle.

While dominating possession, they were made to wait until the hour mark when Noe Pamarot made the breakthrough.

He attacked the near post to glance a Reto Ziegler corner past Paul Gerrard, who had kept Forest in the game with a low first-half save from Robbie Keane.

But Gerrard was unable to deny Keane when he tapped in another Ziegler corner from a yard and Mido sealed the win with a last-minute header.

It was ironic that Spurs should score their crucial first two goals from deadball situations when that often looked the only way the hosts would get on the scoreboard.

They were starved of the ball by a Tottenham side who played a composed passing game despite the bare, bobbly nature of the City Ground pitch.

At times it slowed down their approach play and they struggled to create scoring opportunities from open play.

Gerrard was tested only once in the first half, when he stretched low to his left to claw away a stabbed shot from Keane after the Irishman collected a Freddie Kanoute knock-down.

Paul Robinson was equally under-employed at the other end.

John Curtis set up both Gregor Robertson and Paul Evans with crosses from the right.

Robertson was unable to trouble Robinson but Evans saw his deflected shot parried away after he stepped inside Stephen Kelly.

With chances hard to come by it proved a crucial wasted effort. Forest were not to get the opportunitiy to trouble Robinson again.

Spurs slowly upped the tempo after the re-start and it proved a scoring crescendo.

Wes Morgan was left flat-footed by Pamarot's movement ahead of Ziegler's in-swinging corner and the Frenchman darted to the near post meeting the ball ahead of Gerrard to break the deadlock.

Gerrard made amends saving shots from Ziegler - when he had better options outside him in a quick break - and Keane.

But again he was undone by a Ziegler corner that was nodded on at the near-post by Michael Brown to leave the hard-working Keane with the simplest of tap-ins.

Gerrard again denied Keane with a smart save when he was through on the left, but he was beaten all ends up by Brown's long-range shot, that cracked back off the crossbar for Mido to head home.
