Championship strugglers Nottingham Forest earned a replay against Spurs after a determined display.
Spurs looked to be in control after debutant keeper Colin Doyle dropped Jermain Defoe's free-kick into his own net just before half-time.
But a mix-up between Ledley King and Paul Robinson allowed Gareth Taylor to tap into an empty net.
Doyle then redeemed himself with a smart save from Defoe and Robinson parried a late Kris Commons effort.
Forest, who seemed to enjoy playing without the spectre of Championship relegation, deserved at least a replay - particularly after recovering from the shock of the opening goal.
Gary Megson was forced to give Doyle, who is on loan from Birmingham, his Forest debut because of Paul Gerrard's suspension.
The 19-year-old's only other senior appearance had been in the LDV Vans Trophy while on loan at Chester, but he and his team coped well until the goal.
Though Tottenham dominated possession, several defensive lapses might have seen Forest take the lead.
Alan Rogers pounced on Stephen Kelly's mistimed interception and sent his shot just wide and Commons was allowed to skip through the Spurs defence but could not beat Robinson.
While Spurs looked neat and tidy going forward, they struggled to test the keeper until the 32nd minute when Michael Brown sent a low drive towards the bottom corner.
Doyle tipped that effort round the post and then saw another Brown drive come back off the post but just as he looked likely to survive until at least half-time, the 19-year-old crumbled.
Wes Morgan fouled Defoe to give Spurs a free-kick 20 yards out and the striker's effort bounced out of Doyle's hands and over the line.
But another piece of defensive frailty from Spurs took the heat off Doyle 11 minutes after the interval.
Ledley King should have cleared Rogers' long pass but as Robinson approached, the defender hesitated, allowing Taylor to beat them both and slot into the empty net.
Inspired by the goal, Forest began to sense an upset and Commons' floating cross was palmed away from under the crossbar by Robinson.
Doyle then put his blunder behind him by diving to save from Defoe, but with Forest standing firm, Martin Jol introduced Robbie Keane and Mido.
It failed to have the desired effect.
Defender King created Spurs' best chance late on with a surging run and fierce shot which went narrowly wide.
But the last word went to the impressive Commons who was unlucky to see his low effort saved by Robinson.
The replay will be at the City Ground on Wednesday, 2 March.
Tottenham boss Martin Jol: "Thimothee Atouba, Reto Ziegler and Stephen Kelly were below par. Atouba takes lots of risks - one day you love him, today was different.
"If you play a lower division side you need a bit of brilliance, a lot of concentration and good service.
"But the service was getting worse and worse. At the end they could have scored a second, so credit to them."
