Match Report

Tottenham twice came from behind to snatch a point against Middlesbrough. Spurs were briefly ahead when Robbie Keane punished Boro goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer after he dropped the ball.

Two Yakubu goals put Boro ahead - he scored first with a volley in the 30th minute and claimed his second when James Morrison's powerful shot hit him.

Jermaine Jenas' free-kick pulled Spurs level on 63 minutes - only for Franck Queudrue's header to make it 3-2 before Mido nodded in the equaliser.

Spurs showed plenty of spirit to come away with a point and they were indebted to goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who denied Boro with numerous saves.

The visitors might even have stolen all three points but Boro keeper Schwarzer made up for his first-half misjudgement when he stood up to Jermain Defoe in the closing stages.

The start was scrappy, interrupted by a succession of fouls and three bookings with Michael Dawson, Doriva and Edgar Davids yellow-carded.

Keane's goal sparked the game into life, although in keeping with the dour opening the Irishman's effort is unlikely to make the goal of the season nominations.

Schwarzer, under pressure from Mido, was unable to catch the ball cleanly from Yong-Pyo Lee's cross and Keane reacted quickly to prod the ball towards goal, his effort trickling over the line.

Up to this point Boro had failed to force a single save from Robinson but by the end of the half Steve McClaren's side found themselves ahead.

Yakubu's first goal came from an incisive finish as he sent an angled volley past Robinson.

The Nigerian's second goal was rather more fortunate and had more to do with Morrison's attacking initiative rather than Yakubu's striking instincts.

Morrison wove his way past Lee and Dawson before unleashing a fierce shot that a took a big deflection off the Nigerian into the net.

Yakubu was a mite unfortunate not to claim a hat-trick when his bullet header was tipped over by Robinson early in the second half.

But having done so much to give Boro the lead, Yakubu undid some of his good work when he lunged at Davids to concede a free-kick on the edge of the box.

Jenas delightfully curled the ball over the Boro wall and past Schwarzer's outstretched hand.

Boro stormed back into attack and Robinson did well to push Doriva's shot round the post.

But Robinson could do nothing about Boro's third goal when - from a Fabio Rochemback corner - Queudrue powered a header into the net off the bar.

Robinson was convinced the Frenchman's header had not crossed the line and was booked by referee Howard Webb for protesting.

Spurs' second equaliser came from a corner, Mido rising above the Boro defence to guide a header into the net.

The game had five minutes of stoppage time after Morrison was carried off on a stretcher unconscious but neither side was able to claim the three points.

By the time Morrison had reached the dressing room he had regained consciousness.

Middlesbrough manager Steve McClaren: "When we went into the dressing room James Morrison had a smile on his face and a black eye - and it's not as bad as we thought. "It looked very serious and well done to the medics and physios for getting on and dealing with it quickly.

"It is concussion so we will have to assess it over the next 24 hours."
