Report

Anton Ferdinand headed an equaliser in the last minute of injury time to earn West Ham a dramatic draw at Tottenham. The Hammers seemed set to lose out after Mido put Spurs in front on 16 minutes, sending a looping header over the out-of-position Shaka Hislop.

Teddy Sheringham forced a stunning close-range save from Tottenham keeper Paul Robinson in the second half as Spurs seemingly moved towards victory.

But in the dying seconds, Ferdinand converted Paul Konchesky's corner.

The goal sparked delirious scenes among the West Ham players who seemed destined to pay the price for the lack of a cutting edge.

Spurs had begun better of the two sides and a ferocious Edgar Davids shot went just wide after a deflection from Danny Gabbidon before Robbie Keane forced a save from Shaka Hislop from a tight angle.

At the other end Hayden Mullins saw a shot fly narrowly wide with Robinson beaten before Yossi Benayoun hit a low shot past the England goalkeeper's post.

Spurs were ahead shortly afterwards, however, although Hislop must take his share of the blame.

Dawson's long pass seemed innocuous, but it found the unmarked Mido whose looping header caught the Hammers' keeper hopelessly out of position.

Play continued to flow with Keane and Teemu Tanio both causing the Hammers' defence problems with long-range efforts, before the visitors' Marlon Harewood blazed wildly off-target following a neat set-up.

But as the half wore on, the game became rather scrappy.

Mark Noble had a strike chalked off for offside for the Hammers, but Spurs reached half-time without any major scares.

The interval seemed to refresh Spurs and they began the second period with a flurry of half-chances.

Mido just failed to connect with a cross, then Hislop came out well to block an attempted overhead kick from Keane before a Davids piledriver was blocked by Ferdinand.

West Ham offered little in response, yet Spurs were grateful for a world-class save from Robinson from Sheringham on 66 minutes.

The ex-Spurs favourite latched on to a deflected corner from Matthew Etherington to prod the ball goalwards from close range, but Robinson reacted brilliantly to tip the ball over.

Mido was also in action in the Spurs defence, blocking a powerful shot from Benayoun.

Spurs almost doubled their lead in the dying moments, but Jermaine Jenas' curling effort flew inches wide.

Yet there was still time for Ferdinand to rise high in a crowded penalty area, above even his own keeper Shaka Hislop who had come forward, to head home.

Tottenham coach Martin Jol: "We were not lucky today, it wasn't our day, but I think they probably deserved a bit out of this game. "I can't say I can live with this result, because normally at home you have to win these sort of matches.

"I think we were the better team in the first half. But we have to play better in the second half and create more."
