Debutant winger Andros Townsend sparked Tottenham's passage into the FA Cup fourth round as they stylishly saw off League One Charlton in the second half.
The Addicks battled in the first period but did not hurt Spurs' second-string.
Townsend, 19, cracked in a low 20-yard drive after half time as superb substitute Luka Modric immediately dictated the flow of play in midfield.
Jermain Defoe than raced through to slam in a second before dancing past Charlton defenders to prod in a third.
On his return from suspension, diminutive striker Defoe - who started his career at Charlton - ensured that Spurs put a sluggish opening 45 minutes behind them as the north London club continue to impress neutrals while fighting on in three different competitions.
But it will be Townsend, who recently had his season-long loan terminated at Ipswich, that will have Spurs fans talking after unveiling his exciting range of abilities.
Left-footed but playing on the right wing, he quickly made an impression on the game after beating two players with step-overs before flashing a dangerous low ball across the box in the second minute.
He then won a free-kick in the 14th minute which Niko Kranjcar curled just wide.
Charlton - without a manager and 45 places below Spurs in the league ladder - played well at times but the hosts controlled most of the possession.
Russian striker Roman Pavlyuchenko tested Charlton keeper Rob Elliot with a long-range shot before Charlton captain Christian Dailly threw himself in front of Defoe's effort to block moments later.
Former Tottenham man Johnnie Jackson beat Sandro down the left but Scott Wagstaff shot just wide from 10 yards while under pressure from Wilson Palacios, who was replaced by inspirational Modric during the break.
And the opening goal came just under four minutes into the half when Townsend picked up Sandro's pass, got the ball out from under his feet and rifled a deflected shot past Elliot.
Now playing with the attacking verve often seen at White Hart Lane this season, Spurs hunted a second - and soon found it.
Defoe poked wide from 20 yards but soon made amends just before the hour.
After Kranjcar laid the ball to him, the striker dummied a shot before despatching a low 18-yard drive into the net.
Now bristling with confidence, Defoe charged at the Charlton defence again, winning the ball back after being challenged before firing past Elliot to make it 3-0 after seeing his first effort blocked.
Spurs goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini was called into action as the hosts slowed down with 15 minutes left, palmed over a fierce shot from Charlton substitute Kyel Reid.
But with Modric still weaving his magic, Townsend looked desperate to score his second as he went close in the 79th minute with a shot that went just a yard wide.
Cudicini also tipped over Akpo Sodje's 18-yard strike in the dying minutes to deny Charlton a late consolation.
