Match Report

Despite losing earlier in the season to The O's, the Tottenham Ladies demonstrated that their improving form has made them a formidable side. Zoella Freeman went close from around 20 yards after about 15 minutes with Spurs' best early effort.  With Leyton Orient pushing up trying to catch Spurs offside, the deadlock was broken when Jackie Fearon closed down the Leyton Orient midfield and the deflected ball fell for young Lucy Auguste to run right through the defence and round the keeper before slotting home.   Although there was no further score at half-time Spurs were the team exerting the pressure in the main.  When Leyton Orient did venture towards the Spurs goal their forwards were well marshalled by the back four of Jenny Curtis, Kerry Daniells, Kelly Herrett and player of the match Lorraine Sparrow.   In the opening spell of the second half, Spurs again applied the pressure and were rewarded when a long clearance from keeper Tina Hills was nodded on by Lucy Auguste to Zoella Freeman, who ran on to score from the edge of the area.   Leyton Orient then had a goal disallowed for offside, before they were awarded a debatable penalty which was converted despite Hills diving the right way just unable to keep it out.   Spurs then also had a goal disallowed for offside to equal things up on that score, but not on the scoreline. With around 20 minutes to go Lucy Auguste nodded down a corner from Lorraine Sparrow and inspirational skipper Jackie Fearon was on hand to force the ball over the line.  It was a win that keeps their run going and puts the team in good heart for another game coming up next week against Redbridge Raiders, which are inevitably tight affairs.
