  • Stéphane Dalmat: First Goal
Report

Robbie Keane scored a hat-trick as Spurs won comfortably at White Hart Lane to consign Wolves to the bottom of the table.

The Irish striker was Tottenham's inspiration as they denied Wolves their first away win in the Premiership.

His strike partner Freddie Kanoute, who was terrific on his first start since 19 October, scored Spurs' second and substitute Stephane Dalmat added a late fifth.

Wolves were typically tenacious and scored through Paul Ince and Alex Rae, but they were porous in defence and have now conceded 10 goals in north London inside a week.

Tottenham caretaker manager David Pleat made two changes from the side that had beaten Manchester City in the Carling Cup in midweek.

Kanoute came in for Helder Postiga in attack and centre-half Dean Richards replaced Gary Doherty.

Wolves called in Denis Irwin and Colin Cameron for Joey Gudjonsson and Keith Andrews.

Spurs made a bright start and should have gone ahead after six minutes.

But unfortunately for them, the chance fell to burly Richards, who shot straight at Michael Oakes from only six yards.

Keane did better after 29 minutes when he collected a Ledley King through-ball before striking a sweet shot home from 20 yards.

Yet Dave Jones' side struck back straight from the re-start.

Mark Kennedy broke forward and passed to Ince, who held off Mauricio Taricco to score from inside the area.

Both sides had chances to go ahead before the interval.

Keane scuffed wide after an astute pass from young midfielder Rohan Ricketts before Ince saw a diving header saved by Kasey Keller in the Tottenham goal.

The home side took control of the game in the second-half.

First Kanoute headed home a sumptuous Darren Anderton cross for his eighth goal in eight starts.

Then Keane completed his superb hat-trick. He volleyed in a Paul Konchesky cross for his second and side-footed into an empty net, after Oakes had saved Anderton's cross, for his treble.

Alex Rae managed to score a late second goal for Wolves, but substitute Dalmat put the result beyond doubt with a magnificent long-range effort.
